  • Reloading components

I have been seeing a lot more reloading components showing up in the stores around here, I even picked up 2 bricks of Win LR primers (No FED or CCI in stock though) for $26.99 each and got 3 bricks of Fed 209 shotgun primers as I just got 200lbs of #8 shot for $22.50 a bag.

Our 4-H club is going to get a few cases of FED 20ga #7 ½ shot (#8 is so hard to find around here) with a sale price going at $46.99 a case. That is something we really go through as we have 9 kids enrolled in the shotgun event.

Really glad to see the ammo showing up on the store shelves and components also. It is really good that the price has started down some. I really hope that we as consumers did not “stock” away so much that it will hurt the ammo Co when the boon stops from the election of 2008.

I have also noticed the same thing happening in areas around here, their were some who did stock up and will have to use their supplies up before they can buy more. I feel it won't really hurt the industry as a whole and just might drop the price somewhat. Most of the issue was this year there was more new gun owners this year then there has been in a while. Coupled with the fact of the elections results alot of people would buy more instead of what they would buy normaily. I know I was buying 22 lr's by the brick a year ago becauces they would disappear form the shelf the before the end of the day. And Sportsmans Warehouse filed either chapter 7 or chapter 11 to reorganize; so it put a shortage on ammo there. The good news is their statring to hire people and the shelfs are starting to show more of a supply of ammo and reloading componets. Some of it has been the dealers wanting to drive up the price by putting out a limited amount of ammo on the shelf just to keep the price high and scare on. Case in point was one dealer in Evanston, WY. who keep the price high as well as keep the shortage up.

    Best of luck John.

The shortage has not just been in the reloading market - it has also been in the new ammo market.  The problem or "scare" is because of the party that is the majority in the the legislative branch and also what is in the White House!  The uncertainty that we are being governed at the present time is what is fueling the purchases of not only ammo, reloading equipment , but also for new firearm sales.  It has not been a secret how Nancy Pelosi, Hillary Clinton and Hussein feel about the Right to Bear Arms.  They do not pay any attention to the rules that have been set forth in the Constitution of the United States!!!  I'm not sure if ya'll have noticed it but on more than one occassion the President has been having news conferences without the American Flag behind him!!!

The questions still stand?  Where is the birth certificate, how did someone from Hawaii get a Connecticut social security number, and why did he and his wife have their license to practice law TAKEN from them by the state of Illinois.  Other questions that I would like to know answers to are:  Since when can a President remove a CEO from a company, where was he on Memorial Day(BBQ with Paul McCartney) and how can he, Biden, and Nancy Pelosi wear bracelets supporting Mexico when all Arizona has done is to inact a law that the Federal Government is supposed to already been inforcing!

I did stock up some but I also have a lot of reloading to catch up on so, I should be about back ware I like to be when I get done. I do like to keep more components on hand then most people I know but I also do more shooting than anyone else (outside the family) does.

I am going to get a few more bricks of CCI 200 LR primers as I have a lot more that I load with them and a lot more of the family shooting them.

Glad to see the supply getting in stock and the price dropping some.

Billy, you do bring up some good points.

Things are really starting to look up; I am getting CCI primers now for $25 a brick, saw IMR powder this week at Cabela’s for $21 and Hodigen for $19.99 a pound, the Sierra 168gr HPBT MatchKings was down $3 to $30 a 100 also. I am still going to keep my stock up and get any deals I can (dealer had shot for $20 last week and got another 4 bags) but I am not on any big spending sprees now.

I even see ware Waly-World has their Fed dove loads down $2 a 100 box and all the .22s you could want.

Ammo makers shed light on shortage

The National Shooting Sports Foundation has received numerous calls regarding shortages of ammunition. Many of these callers have expressed concern that the supply of ammunition is not able to keep up with the current demand. In order to provide the best information possible on the issue of ammunition availability, NSSF interviewed ammunition manufacturers across the United States.

    ANSWERS TO AMMUNITION AVAILABILITY QUESTIONS

NSSF has received numerous calls regarding shortages of ammunition. Many of these callers have expressed concern that the supply of ammunition is not able to keep up with the current demand.

In order to provide the best information possible on the issue of ammunition availability, NSSF interviewed ammunition manufacturers across the United States.  Here's what we have learned:

Is there truly a shortage of ammunition?

The shortage of ammunition is real and is caused by several factors including:

    • A significant spike in consumer demand

    • Law Enforcement demand for training and readiness

    • Department of Defense demand for training and readiness

    • Higher prices from commodities

What calibers are in the highest demand?

The high demand for ammunition extends across caliber lines. The increase can be seen in most handgun, rifle and rimfire ammunition and on certain shot shell products such as buckshot.

What are manufacturers doing to keep up with demand?

In order to help keep up with demand for ammunition, manufacturers are working at full capacity (24/7).  It is believed that any ammunition shortage is likely a temporary issue; however, it will take time for supply to catch up with demand.

How long will it take for supply to catch up with demand?

While it is believed that supply will be increasing, the great unknown is what demand will be later in the year. Since there is no way for manufacturers to predict how long consumer demand will be sustained at its current, unprecedented level, it is impossible for manufacturers to forecast the timeline for when the current backlog will begin to improve.

I reload my shotgun sheels. I have 4 reloaders & more componets than I most people. I try to pick up a box of shells every time I go to Basspro or any other sporting goods I go to. The great ammo scare of 2008-2009 is & was insane. Dealers saw a demand & a way to make more money so they took advantage of people. Before the scare I usually got a case of dove loads every Christmas, then when that happend that stopped. Dang! So now I just reload & buy shells. I have told my neighbors & my close frineds that if my haouse catches fire to just get away from here. It will loof the guns of navarone blazing!
